Resting in the London borough of Wandsworth, Balham offers more than just a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city of London. Whether it is a relaxed weekend stroll to Clapham Common or a visit to Balham for a date night away from Central London, Balham provides a place that can provide a refreshing choice of things to do. The Balham locals have been visiting us since our opening a few weeks ago, so we asked them some of the attractions and things to do in Balham that brings people out of town and down to the area.
Here are some of our favourites:
- Clapham Common Walk
Wide spanning and fresh on a winters day, enjoy a walk around Clapham Common in South London. The common covers 220 acres with miles of walking trails taking you to open grassland, three ponds and a Victorian bandstand. Wide trails take you to the flower gardens and around Eagle, Long and Mount Ponds.
There’s also a cycling trail running through the centre of the park. If you fancy doing something on your walk, why not try out the running track, bowling green, Australian rules football pitches, Tennis courts and a skateboard park that lie in Clapham Common.
If you’d like to extend your exercise you could head south through Balham to Tooting Bec Common where there are more cycling and walking paths to try, including some beautiful dog walk routes.
2. Cinema at the Exhibit
The Exhibit is vintage cinema with an ever changing programme of events + showings. Whether its comedy or theatre you are in to, the Exhibit can be a great post dinner destination once you have tried some of the many restaurants that lie within Balham.
3. Doghouse Fitness
You know that feeling when you’re “in the dog house”… whether you’ve disgraced yourself at work drinks or forgot to put the dishwasher on before you went to bed, we’ve all been there. Rather than feeling sorry for yourself, sweat out your sins with a spin or boxing class instead!
Located south of the river in Balham, Dog House is the latest addition to London’s burgeoning fitness scene. Choose between a spinning or boxing class and reward efforts at Rawligion– the award winning vegan kitchen that shares the same space.
Curated by Master Trainer Alice Rickard and Creative Director Danielle Everdell, Dog House is the go-to destination for fitness, health, and wellbeing south of the river.
The self proclaimed “social destination” encourages locals to work, sweat and mingle under one roof. Hence the wine and dog friendly policy… sounds like our kind of studio!4. Winterville – http://winterville.co.uk
